"Red Dead Redemption 2 Rumored for Switch 2 by 2025, Next-Gen Patch Expected"

By MilaMay 26,2025

Rumors are swirling that a Nintendo Switch 2 port of Red Dead Redemption 2 could hit the shelves by the end of 2025. Not only that, but whispers of a next-gen upgrade for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S are also making the rounds. According to GameReactor, insiders "close to Rockstar" have spilled the beans about a Switch 2 version of this beloved Wild West adventure, alongside a "next-gen upgrade patch" aimed at enhancing the gaming experience on current-gen consoles.

While the details remain a bit foggy, GameReactor's sources suggest that both the port and the upgrade could be available as soon as later this year. These rumors are echoed by Nintenduo, which claims the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 might see the light of day within Take-Two's current financial year, ending March 31, 2026. Whether it will be a digital-only release or come in a physical edition is still up in the air.

When Red Dead Redemption 2 first galloped onto the scene in 2018, we at IGN hailed it as a "masterpiece," awarding it a perfect 10/10. IGN's Red Dead Redemption 2 review praised it as "a meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era." So, the prospect of bringing this epic to the Nintendo Switch 2 isn't entirely unexpected. In a recent Q&A with investors following Take-Two's latest financial results, CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed "great optimism" for Nintendo's new platform. He noted that Nintendo's support for third-party publishers this time around is more robust than ever before.

"We're launching four titles with Nintendo Switch 2, and that's I think a bigger array of releases than we've ever offered before with a new Nintendo platform," Zelnick stated. "Historically, being a third-party in the Nintendo business has been a bit challenging. I think Nintendo has been very forthcoming in addressing that. And we're stepping up too, because we have great optimism for the platform. In terms of what we would bring to any platform, we address it on a case-by-case basis, we obviously want to be where the consumers are. But we would not necessarily bring every title to every platform. There are also great catalog opportunities as well."

Take-Two is set to bring Civilization 7 (launching on June 5), the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (though it's unclear which specific games and when), and Borderlands 4 (set for September 12) to the Nintendo Switch 2. These titles aren't surprising, given Take-Two's history of publishing these franchises on the original Switch. However, Zelnick's comments hint at the possibility of more releases from Take-Two's extensive back catalog. While GTA 6 might not make the cut, there's a glimmer of hope for titles like GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 to join the lineup.
