Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase: New Update Details

Closed Beta: March 13th - 19th, 2025

Ubisoft announced the Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege X) Closed Beta, running from March 13th, 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET, to March 19th, 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET. The Beta begins immediately following the R6 Siege X Showcase. Players can gain access by watching the Showcase on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel or participating Twitch streams from select content creators to earn Closed Beta Twitch drops. The Beta will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and will feature the new Dual Front game mode.

Currently, some players are experiencing issues receiving the access code email. Ubisoft Support acknowledges this and is working to resolve it.

It's important to remember that R6 Siege X isn't a new game, but a major update bringing significant graphical and technical improvements to Siege.

Dual Front: The New 6v6 Game Mode

Ubisoft unveiled Dual Front, a dynamic 6v6 mode offering core gameplay upgrades, including visual enhancements, an audio overhaul, rappel improvements, and revamped player protection. It also provides free access to experience Rainbow Six Siege's tactical action. This mode introduces a new map, District, where two teams of six Operators simultaneously attack and defend, creating unique tactical possibilities.

The classic Siege experience remains, now titled "Core Siege" in the main menu. This includes five modernized maps (Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe) with double texture resolution, optional 4K textures on PC, and enhanced destructible materials. More maps will be modernized in future seasons.

Free-to-Play Starting Year 10, Season 2

After 10 years, Rainbow Six Siege is going free-to-play. Game Director Alexander Karpazis explained the decision to PC Gamer, emphasizing the goal of introducing the game to new players and encouraging social play. Free access includes Unranked, Quick Play, and Dual Front, while Ranked and Siege Cup remain exclusive to premium access.

This decision, discussed previously by Leroy Athanassoff in 2020, aims to balance the competitive scene by deterring smurfs and cheaters, maintaining the integrity of Ranked and Siege Cup.

No Siege 2 in the Works

Karpazis confirmed that a Siege 2 sequel was never considered. Instead, Siege X represents a significant evolution of the original game, developed over three years alongside regular seasonal updates. It aims to ensure the game's continued success and community engagement for the next decade.

Rainbow Six Siege X launches June 10th, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates!
