Radeon RX 9070 GPUs Set for Early 2023 Launch

By GraceFeb 22,2025

AMD's highly anticipated RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards, unveiled at CES 2025, are finally getting a release date: March 2025. This announcement, made via Twitter/X by David McAfee, VP & GM of Radeon Graphics and Ryzen CPUs, confirms the RDNA 4 architecture GPUs will arrive next month.

McAfee's statement promises a broad global availability of both cards, along with accompanying software. However, crucial details such as precise specifications and pricing remain undisclosed. Industry speculation points towards competitive positioning against Nvidia's RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti, which are slated for a February release.

Interestingly, despite the lack of official announcements, reports suggest that RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT cards have already reached retailers and reviewers. eTeknix, for example, has confirmed receiving review samples.

PlayThis pre-release distribution has fueled speculation about AMD's strategy. The delayed official launch might be a calculated move to directly counter Nvidia's offerings, allowing for a more focused comparison and potentially mitigating pricing pressure.

The current market landscape, with Nvidia commanding a dominant 88% share (according to a June 2024 report), underscores the importance of this launch for AMD. The company needs a strong showing to make inroads into Nvidia's significant market share in the mid-range and high-end segments. The lack of clear communication surrounding the RX 9070 series launch, however, has created some uncertainty.
