Exciting news for fans of the iconic franchise: Power Rangers is set to make a thrilling return to the screen with a new live-action series on Disney+. According to The Wrap, the creative minds behind the acclaimed Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, are in discussions to take the helm as writers, showrunners, and producers for this much-anticipated project, in collaboration with 20th Century TV.
Hasbro, the current owner of the Power Rangers brand, is keen on reimagining the series to captivate a new generation while ensuring it remains beloved by long-time fans. This move comes after Hasbro's acquisition of the franchise from Saban Properties in 2018 for a hefty $522 million. At the time of the purchase, Hasbro's chairman and CEO, Brian Goldner, expressed enthusiasm about the "tremendous upside potential" of the Power Rangers, highlighting its potential across toys, games, consumer products, digital gaming, entertainment, and global markets.

The original '90s TV show, The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, became a cultural phenomenon, captivating young audiences with its teenage superheroes and their impressive mechs that could combine into an even larger mech. Despite a failed attempt to reboot the franchise with a gritty 2017 movie, which was intended to kickstart a series of sequels but faltered at the box office, Hasbro remains committed to revitalizing the brand.
In addition to the Power Rangers series, Hasbro is also expanding its entertainment portfolio with other notable projects. These include a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms, currently in development at Netflix, an animated Magic: The Gathering series also in the works at Netflix, and plans for a Magic: The Gathering cinematic universe. These initiatives underscore Hasbro's ambition to leverage its iconic brands across various media platforms.
