If you've ever pondered what a newly elected Pope does to unwind, wonder no more. According to a close family member, Pope Leo XIV is quite relatable. In his free time, he indulges in games and enjoys watching movies, much like the rest of us.
As reported earlier this week, Edward Berger’s critically acclaimed papal thriller Conclave captivated audiences last year. The film’s realistic depiction of the conclave process even inspired some real-life religious leaders, including those involved in this week's selection of the new Pope, to seek guidance from it. Among them was Robert Francis Prevost, who has now been elected as Pope Leo XIV.
It turns out, Pope Leo XIV is quite the gamer. Photo by Christopher Furlong/Getty Images. Speaking with NBC, the Pope's older brother, John Prevost, shared insights from their last conversation before his brother's appointment. During their chat, they discussed popular word games like Wordle and Words with Friends. To his brother's relief, they engage in these games daily.
John mentioned asking his brother if he had watched Conclave for advice. "He had just finished watching the movie Conclave," John revealed. "So he knew how to behave. We laugh about things like that to take his mind off the upcoming conclave."
Directed by Edward Berger, the BAFTA and Oscar-winning Conclave explores one of the world's most mysterious and historic events: the selection of a new Pope. Cardinal Lawrence (played by Ralph Fiennes) takes charge of this secretive process following the sudden passing of the beloved Pope. As the Church's leading figures gather at the Vatican, Lawrence becomes embroiled in a conspiracy and uncovers a secret that could alter the foundations of The Church.
