Pokécology: An Official Encyclopedia For Pokémon Behaviors and Ecology
Launches in Japan in June 2025
The Pokémon Company, partnering with the renowned Japanese comic publisher Shogakukan, is set to launch "Pokécology," an official encyclopedia dedicated to the behaviors and ecology of Pokémon. Shogakukan revealed on its website on April 21 that the eagerly anticipated book will hit the shelves in Japan on June 18, 2025.
Pre-orders for this exciting new addition to Pokémon literature are now open at bookstores across Japan. Priced at 1,430 yen (tax included), as per Shogakukan’s announcement, the book promises to be a valuable resource. While there's no official word yet on a global release, given Pokémon's worldwide fanbase, an English edition is highly anticipated.
Pokémon Ecology Encyclopedia
"Pokécology" aims to offer a comprehensive look into the ecological world of Pokémon, exploring various facets such as their diet, sleep patterns, physical characteristics, and their interactions with both their environment and other Pokémon.
The book is meticulously crafted by a team of distinguished veterinary behaviorists and ecology experts from the University of Tokyo. Leading the research is ecologist Yoshinari Yonehara, who specializes in the analysis of wild Pokémon. Complementing the text, renowned illustrator Chihiro Kino, known for her work in animal ecology books, will provide vibrant full-color drawings of Pokémon.
While Pokémon has previously released numerous hardcover books detailing Pokémon stats, battle techniques, stories, and game guides, "Pokécology" marks their first venture into the detailed study of Pokémon biology and ecology. This initiative offers an educational opportunity, particularly for younger audiences, to deepen their understanding and appreciation of these iconic creatures.
