Pokémon TCG Shatters World Record with Epic 24-Hour Card Opening Marathon

The Pokémon Company International has achieved a new Guinness World Record, setting a benchmark for the longest Pokémon TCG unboxing livestream. The event, held on November 26th, 2024, celebrated the launch of the Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks expansion.

The record-breaking livestream, broadcast on Pokémon's official Twitch channel, featured popular online personalities Joe Merrick (Serebii), PokeGirl Ranch, and Mayplaystv. Over 24 hours, this trio opened over 1,500 booster packs and other Pokémon products, accumulating an estimated 20,000+ cards, according to the official press release.

Peter Murphy, Senior Director of Marketing at The Pokémon Company International, expressed immense pride in the accomplishment, stating, "It's been an incredible 24 hours of pack opening, and we're thrilled to have achieved such an ambitious GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title alongside an amazing team of content creators."

The event's success extends beyond the record itself. The Pokémon Company announced plans for additional giveaways on participating content creators' channels within the following two weeks. Furthermore, the amassed cards will be donated to various charities, including Barnardo's in the UK, before the holiday season.

Released on November 8th, 2024, Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks transports players to the Terarium, a key location in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC, The Indigo Disk. This expansion introduces powerful Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, such as Archaludon ex with its formidable Metal Defender ability.

The expansion also features iconic Dragon-type Pokémon like Palkia, Dialga, Eternatus, alongside Alolan Exeggutor ex, and Tatsugiri ex. Collectors can also find captivating illustration rare and special illustration rare cards showcasing Alolan Dugtrio and Feebas in serene ocean settings. New Tera Pokémon ex like Pallossand ex and Flygon ex add exciting options for TCG players' decks.

The Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks expansion is also available digitally via the Pokémon TCG Live app, offering in-game bonuses for collecting and battling with the new Stellar Tera Pokémon ex.
