High Demand for Pokémon TCG's Prismatic Evolutions Leads to Production Increase

Addressing the Shortage

As reported by IGN on January 16, 2025, a Pokémon Company spokesperson acknowledged the difficulties some fans are facing in acquiring Prismatic Evolutions products. They confirmed that the company is working at maximum capacity to produce more cards to meet demand. While fans may experience delays, the company assures them that efforts are underway to restore optimal stock levels.

Impact on Retailers

PokeBeach, a Pokémon TCG fan website, reported on January 4, 2025, that the high demand disproportionately affected smaller US retailers. According to Deguire, owner of Player 1 Services in Maryland, distributors limited supplies by 10-15% for local stores, while larger retailers like GameStop and Target received significantly larger allocations. This distribution strategy aimed to retain a wider range of accounts.

The scarcity has also led to inflated prices on the secondary market. For example, the Elite Trainer Box, yet to be officially released, is already selling for $127 USD, compared to its $55 USD retail price. However, this price inflation is expected to subside once the Pokémon Company increases supply.
