Pokémon TCG Pocket Players Blown Away After Discovering Some Cards Reference Iconic Game Boy Locations

By PeytonMar 06,2025

Pokémon TCG Pocket's captivating card art has captivated players for months, but recently, hidden details linking the monsters to the Game Boy games have surfaced.

The discovery started when Reddit user asch_win highlighted landmarks on the Spearow card. The Normal/Flying type is depicted in a scene featuring grass, a fence, trees, and two buildings—one resembling the Celadon City Department Store from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. The proximity to a fenced-grass patch reminiscent of Route 16, a known Spearow habitat, strongly suggests an intentional reference.

It's clear that developers Creatures Inc. and DeNA cleverly incorporated these nods to the original games. Further investigation by Reddit user jteede revealed more connections, including a Diglett card near Vermillion City and a Haunter card by Lavender Town's tower. Asch_win also uncovered location references on several Supporter cards.

Many card illustrations depict Pokémon in fantastical settings unrelated to established lore. Some, like a Pikachu variant, mirror real-world collectible cards. However, others, uniquely found in Pokémon TCG Pocket, contain these well-concealed Easter eggs.

The community has enthusiastically joined the search, uncovering further references. A Gyarados full-art card seemingly features the S.S. Anne, while Oddish, Venonat, and Bellsprout cards collectively depict a scene from FireRed and LeafGreen's seaside Snorlax area.

Since its October release, Pokémon TCG Pocket has received one additional booster expansion, Mythical Island, bringing the total to four. Further expansions are anticipated, with new cards periodically added through Wonder Pick Events and updates. As Creatures and DeNA continue releasing cards from various generations, players are encouraged to remain vigilant for more hidden references.

Meanwhile, players can participate in the current Wonder Pick event featuring Charmander and Squirtle, and explore the ongoing debate regarding the impact of pack selection.
