PlayStation Stars Program Ends After Three Years

By CamilaMay 25,2025

Sony has announced the termination of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, less than three years after its inception. As of today, the program is no longer accepting new members, and any current member who chooses to cancel their membership will be unable to rejoin. Upon cancellation, all reward points will be permanently deleted.

For existing members, the opportunity to earn points will continue until July 23, 2025. Members can redeem their accumulated points until November 3, 2026. Despite the program's closure, PlayStation Stars' Digital Collectibles, such as the 3D digital model of a Jim Ryan bobblehead, will remain accessible for the foreseeable future, allowing members to continue enjoying these unique items.

Grace Chen, PlayStation's Vice President of Network Advertising, Loyalty, and Licensed Merchandise, shared insights on the PlayStation blog about the decision to wind down the program. "Since launching the program, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends," Chen stated. She added that through this evaluation, Sony has decided to refocus its efforts and will continue to explore ways to build upon the key findings from PlayStation Stars.

No details were provided about a potential replacement for the scheme, leaving it unclear what Sony's findings and future plans might entail.

Launched in July 2022, PlayStation Stars was designed to reward PS5 owners with points that had real cash value. These points could be earned through purchases in the PlayStation Store and by completing various tasks such as surveys, trying out new games, or exploring system features. The program served as a competitor to Microsoft's Xbox Rewards, though both have seen modifications over time, resulting in reduced profitability.

Last summer, PlayStation Stars experienced a month-long service outage. In October, Sony introduced several changes, including reducing the validity of points from 24 months to 12 months and removing PlayStation Plus membership purchases from points-eligible transactions. Now, the entire program is set to be phased out completely.
