Should You Use Pebbles or Herring in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2?

By EricMar 19,2025

You, as Henry, face a crucial decision: choosing your trusty steed from two contenders, Pebbles and Herring. The prologue cruelly strips you of your initial horse, leaving you to rebuild your life, and your stable. Later, this choice presents itself, so which horse reigns supreme in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2?

Finding Pebbles in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Your reunion with Pebbles occurs at the Semine estate, before the wedding of Lord Semine and Agnes. She awaits in the stables, but requires purchase to become your ride during the "The Jaunt" quest with Jan Semine. However, Pebbles holds sentimental value, having been Henry's companion before the game's events, much like Mutt, another mount obtainable through side quests.

Acquiring Herring in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

After completing "For Whom the Bell Tolls," Herring becomes available. If you haven't acquired another horse, Otto von Bergow gifts him to you. Conversely, if you already possess a horse and decline Herring, you can sell him to nomad traders via Kabat for 300 Groschen.

While Herring initially boasts superior base stats, this is deceptive. Each horse unlocks a perk boosting its stats after a certain riding distance. This means initial stat advantages don't always translate to late-game superiority.

Pebbles emerges as the superior choice. Despite not possessing the highest stats even after her perk activates (unlocked after 35 kilometers), her lower acquisition cost and quicker perk unlock make her a better value. Her boosted stats are:

  • 217 Stamina
  • 353 Capacity
  • 53 Speed
  • 12 Courage

Her reliability, decent stats, early acquisition, and faster stat boost combine to make her a strong contender. Furthermore, the sentimental value of her prior companionship with Henry shouldn't be overlooked.

Ultimately, for extensive travel in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, a trustworthy steed is essential. For Henry, Pebbles perfectly fills this role.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
