Obsidian RPG Avowed Can Hit 60FPS on Xbox Series X

By AaliyahMar 05,2025

Obsidian's Avowed: 60fps on Xbox Series X Confirmed, Series S Locked at 30fps

Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment's highly anticipated RPG, will achieve a frame rate of up to 60 frames per second (fps) on the Xbox Series X, according to game director Carrie Patel in a MinnMax interview. While she didn't elaborate on specifics, the confirmation settles previous uncertainty. The Xbox Series S version, as previously announced, will remain capped at 30fps.

Whether Avowed will offer selectable performance and graphics modes—a common feature allowing players to prioritize either framerate or visual fidelity—remains unconfirmed. It's unclear if the 60fps target on the Series X is a default setting or requires activating a performance mode.

The game's release date presents a curious pricing structure. Those willing to pay $89.99 will gain early access on February 13th, while the standard $69.99 edition launches on February 18th. This staggered release, a growing trend among publishers, contrasts with recent decisions by companies like Ubisoft to abandon this practice.

Avowed, set within the Pillars of Eternity universe, is a first-person fantasy RPG emphasizing player choice and impactful decisions. Players will unravel mysteries, navigate political intrigue, and forge alliances or rivalries within a world steeped in war and conflict.

IGN's recent final preview lauded the game's engaging conversations, significant player agency, and overall enjoyable experience, stating simply, "Avowed is just a lot of fun."
