Nintendo Unveils Virtual Game Card System to Conceal Game Cards

By HannahMay 19,2025

Nintendo's latest Switch update introduces the new Virtual Game Card (VGC) system, offering users the ability to conceal their game cards from prying eyes. This feature, confirmed by a user on X/Twitter, allows you to hide your Virtual Game Cards from your acquired list on the Nintendo VGC portal. This means that anyone checking your list won't see the games you've chosen to hide, providing a layer of privacy for whatever reason you might have.

I personally tested this feature and successfully hid games such as Suikoden I&II HD Remaster and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. While these games still appear on my OLED Switch if they're installed or loaded, they vanish from the list once uninstalled. The process to view hidden games involves navigating through the "Redownload Software" section and then accessing the "Can't Find Software?" area, where you must log into your Nintendo account to see your hidden titles. The same method applies on the Nintendo website, where hidden games are tucked away in a separate folder under the "Can't Find Software?" option.

This feature could serve as a parental control tool, allowing you to keep certain games like Mortal Kombat or Doom out of reach on a shared console. Alternatively, if you're concerned about your game collection being seen at social gatherings, this could be a handy feature to keep those more salacious titles under wraps.

The latest update not only brings the VGC system but also includes redesigned icons, a system transfer feature in preparation for the upcoming Switch 2, and the closure of a popular game sharing loophole. For more details on the new Nintendo Switch firmware update, you can read further here.
