Nintendo's Latest Announcement: A LEGO Game Boy!
Get ready for a blast from the past! Nintendo has just revealed its latest collaboration with LEGO: a buildable LEGO Game Boy! Launching October 2025, this follows the successful LEGO NES set, offering another nostalgic treat for gamers and LEGO enthusiasts alike.
The announcement on X (formerly Twitter) sparked a flurry of excitement, but also a wave of playful speculation about the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. Many users jokingly interpreted the Game Boy LEGO set as the long-awaited console reveal, highlighting the anticipation surrounding the next-generation Nintendo console.
While details on the Switch 2 remain scarce, Nintendo President Furukawa reassured fans in May 2024 that an announcement regarding the Switch successor would be made within the current fiscal year (ending March 2025). So, the wait continues!
Pricing for the LEGO Game Boy hasn't been revealed yet, but Nintendo promises more information will be shared soon.
Past LEGO and Nintendo Collaborations
This isn't Nintendo and LEGO's first rodeo. Their previous partnerships have brought iconic characters from beloved franchises to life in brick form, including Super Mario, Animal Crossing, and The Legend of Zelda.
Last May 2024, a magnificent 2,500-piece LEGO set featuring the Great Deku Tree from both Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild was released, complete with Princess Zelda and the Master Sword. This impressive set retails for $299.99 USD.
Following closely, a unique Super Mario and Yoshi set based on Super Mario World was launched two months later. This innovative set features a crank mechanism to animate Yoshi's legs, capturing the classic sprite style. It's priced at $129.99 USD.
The LEGO Game Boy promises to be another exciting addition to this successful collaboration. Stay tuned for more details!
