During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo announced that nearly the entire Nintendo Switch library will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Excitingly, select titles are receiving enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, complete with unique features. Games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree are among those getting these special upgrades.

Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game offers distinct enhancements. For instance, Super Mario Party: Jamboree introduces "Jamboree TV," a feature that includes mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble, and gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.

PlayNext, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will see improvements in resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, a new service called Zelda Notes will be available through the Nintendo Switch Online app, offering voice guidance for finding Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, titled Star-Crossed World, alongside enhanced graphics and framerates.

New titles like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A are also getting upgraded versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls and offer 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature improved resolution and framerates.

These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. For owners of the original versions on the Nintendo Switch, upgrade packs will be available for select titles such as Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

The buzz about "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games started last week when a webpage hinted at these enhancements in a footnote related to the newly-announced Virtual Game Card system.
