Nintendo Switch 2 Teases Revealed by Genki CEO

By ChristianFeb 10,2025

Sneak Peek at the Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Revelation

Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing key design features and sparking further discussion about Nintendo's upcoming console. The mockup, reportedly based on a black market unit, accurately reflects the Switch 2's dimensions, showcasing a larger form factor closer in size to the Steam Deck.

Key features observed include magnetic Joy-Cons with integrated optical sensors, a second USB-C port, and a mysterious "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge, explaining a release mechanism involving pins activated by buttons on each controller. Despite the magnetic attachment, the Joy-Cons remain securely fixed during gameplay.

The optical sensors on the Joy-Cons suggest potential functionality as mouse-like input devices, a theory supported by recently leaked Switch 2 images. While the Switch 2's increased size allows it to physically fit within the original Switch dock, design modifications render it incompatible. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remain unknown.
