Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons: New Function Uncovered

By NicholasFeb 02,2025

Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons May Function as Computer Mice

Recent circumstantial evidence suggests the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons might offer a novel functionality: acting as computer mice. While the widespread adoption of this feature by game developers remains uncertain, it aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative experimentation.

The evidence comes from Famiboards user LiC, who previously accessed Vietnamese customs data related to a suspected Nintendo parts supplier. This data source has fueled numerous Switch 2 rumors since mid-2024.

In early January 2025, LiC revealed further findings: shipping manifests referencing polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape described as "mouse soles" and intended "to stick to game console handles." This terminology, typically associated with computer mice, hints at potential mouse-like functionality in the Switch 2's Joy-Cons.

Two "mouse sole" model numbers, LG7 and SML7, were identified. These numbers haven't been found in public component databases, suggesting they represent unreleased products. The reported 90 x 90mm size of these adhesive sheets suggests they're large enough to cover the entire back of the Joy-Cons, likely requiring trimming during assembly.

Not a First for Handheld Consoles

This mouse-like controller mode, while potentially novel for Nintendo, isn't unprecedented. The Lenovo Legion GO, released in 2023, already features a similar capability with its right controller, transformable into a mouse when rotated sideways. Lenovo even provides a plastic accessory to enhance its functionality as a mouse.

The Legion GO also shares another rumored Switch 2 feature: magnetic rails for controller attachment. This similarity further strengthens the speculation surrounding the Switch 2's design and potential features.
