"Nintendo Switch 2: Joy-Con Mouse Controls for Home Menu Navigation"

By NatalieMay 19,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls on the Home screen, adding a new level of interactivity to the console. Since the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, fans have been buzzing with excitement about the innovative features of the new Joy-Con, particularly its "mouse mode" functionality. Last month, we finally received official confirmation that the Joy-Con can be used in this mode, allowing players to slide the controllers across surfaces and use the analog sticks to simulate left-click and right-click actions, much like a traditional mouse. Moreover, players have the option to use two Joy-Con simultaneously in mouse mode, one in each hand, or to combine one in standard mode with the other in mouse mode for versatile control options.

The latest updates, showcased through the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter, reveal that the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls can also be used to navigate the Home menu on the Switch 2. According to Nintendo, "If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen." To activate the cursor, simply set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or any flat surface and move it as directed. "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus," Nintendo further explained, adding that these controls can be used on the Home menu and in compatible software. To revert to using the thumbstick, just move the Joy-Con 2 into a horizontal position.

Although the full extent of game compatibility remains to be seen, Nintendo has demonstrated the mouse control technology working seamlessly with the Switch 2 editions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.

The eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 is slated to launch on June 5. Pre-orders for the console opened on April 24, maintaining a price point of $449.99, and the response has been phenomenal.
