First Look: Nintendo Switch 2 Game Cartridges Revealed Ahead of Launch

Nintendo has unveiled our first official glimpse at Nintendo Switch 2 game cartridges just weeks before the console's scheduled launch.

The latest promotional video from Nintendo Today showcases the console's official carrying case, which includes storage compartments designed to hold up to six cartridges from both Switch generations.

As expected, Switch 2 cartridges maintain identical dimensions to their predecessors - ensuring full backward compatibility through a single cartridge slot. However, Nintendo has implemented one distinct visual change: the cartridges now feature vibrant red coloring.

Distinctive Red Design Confirmed

The crimson color scheme appears standardized across all Switch 2 games, not limited to the Mario Kart World edition shown in Nintendo's promotional material. Users without the Nintendo Today app can view the footage through OatmealDome's social media post.

Each cartridge also displays the new Switch 2 branding instead of the original Nintendo Switch logo on its surface label.

The cartridges preserve Nintendo's distinctive safety feature - the bitter-tasting coating designed to prevent accidental ingestion, as confirmed by Switch 2 director Takuhiro Dohta:

"Consumer safety remains our priority. The protective coating ensures immediate rejection if placed in the mouth."
