It feels like we've been speculating for years about what the specs of Nintendo's long-rumored Nintendo Switch upgrade might be. Now that we finally know, the results are even more impressive than many would have thought, including support for 120fps and up to 4K resolution when the system is docked.
In a segment during today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo showcased a variety of features of the system. For starters, the Nintendo Switch 2 boasts a larger built-in screen than its predecessor, measuring 7.9 inches. It maintains the same thickness of 13.9mm but offers double the pixel count, supporting a 1080p display in handheld mode at up to 120fps. The screen is an LCD panel that supports HDR. When docked, it can deliver up to 4K resolution and HDR as well. The Joy-Con 2 controllers are now connected via magnets and can be detached by pressing a release button on the back. The SL and SR buttons on the sides are larger, making them easier to use when playing horizontally, and the left and right sticks are also bigger. This segment also officially revealed the introduction of mouse control support in the Joy-Con controllers.
The handheld Switch 2 features a built-in microphone with noise-canceling technology and 3D audio for compatible games. It comes with a larger, sturdier stand than the original Nintendo Switch, which can be adjusted to different heights. Additionally, there's a top USB port that can be used for external camera connectivity or to charge the system while in tabletop mode.
Finally, we learned that the Nintendo Switch 2 comes equipped with 256GB of internal storage.
