Nintendo Reacts to Alleged Switch 2 Speculation

Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025

Following the emergence of Switch 2 images at CES 2025, Nintendo issued an uncommon statement clarifying that the circulating imagery is unofficial. This is noteworthy because Nintendo rarely addresses leaks directly. The statement, made in response to a Sankei Shimbun inquiry, emphasizes Nintendo's absence from CES 2025, rendering any Switch 2 material from the event non-official.

The wave of Switch 2 leaks began in late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki's display of a purported Switch 2 replica at CES fueled the recent flurry of leaks. Images of this replica quickly spread across social media.

Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?

While Nintendo didn't comment on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is an additional button, labeled "C," situated below the right Joy-Con's home button. Its function remains unknown. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai also suggested that the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will use magnetic attachment and function as mouse controls, echoing previous speculation.

Nintendo's Timeline and Pricing

Nintendo previously announced plans to reveal the Switch successor during fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. A retail launch isn't expected until at least the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
