A Coastal Conflict on the Continent
Netflix Tudum, the official Netflix news source, announced The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, debuting February 11, 2025. This animated film adapts Andrzej Sapkowski's short story, "A Little Sacrifice," from Sword of Destiny.
The story unfolds in a coastal village where a centuries-long conflict between humans and merfolk has prompted a kingdom to enlist the services of a Witcher. Instead of the usual monsters, Geralt faces a unique challenge – battling merpeople.
Returning to voice Geralt is Doug Cockle. Joey Batey and Anya Chalotra reprise their roles as Jaskier and Yennefer, respectively. Christina Wren, known for her work on Will Trent, voices the new character, Essi Daven.
Sapkowski acts as a creative consultant, while Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin, writers for the live-action series, penned the script. Kang Hei Chul, storyboard artist for The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, directs the film.
A Story Within Season 1
The film's timeline fits neatly between episodes 5 and 6 of the first season of the live-action series. Following Geralt and Yennefer's reunion in Rinde after the Djinn incident, Geralt undertakes a new contract near the coast.
The coastal location suggests a setting between Redania and Temeria. Considering the source material, Bremervoord City in Temeria, ruled by Duke Agloval, is a strong possibility. However, the film's adherence to the short story remains to be seen.
