Netflix Games to exclusively feature FIFA\'s first release since EA breakup

Netflix Games to Exclusive Home of First New FIFA Release in Years

Delphi Interactive will develop the new football simulation, set to launch exclusively on Netflix Games.

Players can enjoy the game using their smartphone as a controller, seamlessly on their TV.

Nearly four years after EA lost the official FIFA licence, the gaming world anticipated a quiet end to the franchise. Instead, FIFA is making a bold return to gaming, teaming up exclusively with Netflix to reignite interest and reconnect with fans.

It has been confirmed that Netflix Games will host the first FIFA-branded football simulation since the split from EA. Developed by Delphi Interactive, the game is scheduled for release ahead of the 2026 World Cup and aims to offer a welcoming, accessible experience for fans of all levels.

If Delphi sounds familiar, you're not alone. Though the studio hasn’t released a game yet, they’re also collaborating with IO Interactive on the upcoming 007: First Light. With this being the first full-fledged FIFA sports sim since the split—excluding arcade-style spin-offs like Rivals and Heroes—there’s a lot riding on the success of this release.

Back of the net

It’s fair to say that not capitalizing on the gaming market after EA’s departure wasn’t the worst misstep FIFA has made. But with high ticket prices still a concern, this new alliance signals a real effort to make up for lost time.

For Netflix, this partnership could be a game-changer, leveraging the long-standing popularity of FIFA. At the same time, with Delphi being a relatively untested developer, it also carries significant risk. Without prior projects to benchmark against, the FIFA name could easily fade into obscurity if not handled carefully.

Only time will tell who gains the most from this collaboration—and whether the FIFA brand still holds weight with fans when it’s no longer under EA’s control.
