Marvel enthusiasts eagerly anticipating the return of Moon Knight to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) may need to temper their expectations regarding a second season of the Disney+ series. According to Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, while there are indeed plans for Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight character to appear in future MCU projects, a Season 2 of the original series is not on the cards. This shift in direction comes as Marvel Television has evolved its strategy since the initial release of Moon Knight in 2022.
Previously, Marvel's approach was to introduce characters through their own dedicated TV shows, setting the stage for future tie-ins with other projects. A prime example of this is Ms. Marvel, which introduced Kamala Khan via a Disney+ series before she joined the cast of The Marvels. However, Winderbaum shared that Marvel Television is now pivoting to a more traditional television model, aiming to produce shows that can be released annually, akin to conventional TV series.
"So I think Marvel Television has happened in waves, and I think Moon Knight happened in a wave of shows that were going to establish characters that would tie-in to the future," Winderbaum elaborated. "And moving forward our priorities have shifted. We’re making shows as shows that can exist as annual releases, more like television. I would love to see a Moon Knight Season 2, but there are plans for Moon Knight down the road."
