Milly Alcock, the Australian actress who portrayed the young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the acclaimed series "House of the Dragon," faced a challenging start to her role. Just two days into filming, someone in a high-ranking position on set suggested she should undergo acting coaching. During her appearance on The Tonight Show, Alcock shared, "On my second day on House of the Dragon, one of the, I’m not gonna say who, but someone very high up, pulled me aside and was like, ‘Um, we’re gonna get you an acting coach.’" She admitted to feeling "mortified" by the suggestion.
Reflecting on the experience with humor, the Critics Choice award nominee said it "just confirmed everything that I’ve kind of known to be true, [which] is that I’m not very good at my job," playfully adding, "You know what I mean! I was like, ‘I can’t do this. This is terrible. This is a big mistake.’"
Despite this early setback, Alcock's portrayal of King Viserys I Targaryen's daughter and heir in "House of the Dragon" has been well-received. She appeared as a series regular in Season 1 and made a guest appearance in Season 2, which chronicles the decline of the House Targaryen. The adult version of Rhaenyra, who ascends to become Queen, is played by Emma D’Arcy.
The series, which premiered in August 2022, came just over three years after the final episode of the original "Game of Thrones." "House of the Dragon" was quickly renewed for a second season shortly after its debut and secured a third season renewal in June 2024, even before Season 2 began airing. The show's success was further highlighted when it won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series — Drama.
Looking ahead, while Season 3 of "House of the Dragon" is confirmed, fans eagerly await an official release date. Meanwhile, Alcock is set to take on the role of Kara Zor-El / Supergirl in the upcoming "Superman" movie this summer and in "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" next year, showcasing her versatility and rising star in the entertainment industry.
