What Is Max Level/Rank in Assassin’s Creed Shadows? Level Cap Explained

By OwenApr 16,2025

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* stands out as one of the most expansive titles in the franchise, boasting a comprehensive progression system that matches its grand scale. Let's dive into the details about the maximum levels, Knowledge Ranks, Mastery, and level scaling in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.

What Is the Max XP Level in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* introduces a revamped progression system, blending traditional XP-based advancement with a new Knowledge Rank mechanic. As you accumulate XP, you unlock access to higher-tier weapons, armor, and gear, while also boosting Naoe and Yasuke's base stats.

To fully explore all of Japan's provinces in the game, reaching Level 35 is sufficient. However, the XP grind doesn't stop there. Initially, Ubisoft suggested a Level Cap of 40, but players can actually push their characters up to Level 60. And that's not the end! With the upcoming *Claws of Awaji* expansion, there's a strong chance the level cap will be raised even further.

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, Knowledge Rank represents a significant shift in the franchise's progression mechanics, distinct from the XP system. Players earn Knowledge Points through various open-world activities that focus on mindfulness and training. These points help advance through the Knowledge Ranks, unlocking new skills for Naoe and Yasuke. However, to actually utilize these skills, players must also invest Mastery Points.

Reaching Knowledge Rank 6 allows players to unlock all available skills. But the journey doesn't end there. Upon hitting this rank, a new Knowledge tree becomes available, offering passive skills that can further refine your build according to your preferred play style.

Is There a Cap for Mastery in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Mastery is another critical component of progression in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, serving as the equivalent to skill points. These points are crucial for unlocking new skills across the six Mastery trees available for each protagonist. The variety of activities through which players can earn Mastery Points is vast, ensuring ample opportunities to acquire the necessary points for your desired skills.

While there is a theoretical limit to the Mastery Points you can accumulate, reaching it would require extensive engagement with the game. Furthermore, the *Claws of Awaji* expansion, set to release in 2025, is expected to introduce new methods for earning Mastery Points.

Does Assassin’s Creed Shadows Have Level Scaling?

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, each province in Japan has an associated level. At the game's outset, Kii stands out with a level requirement of 35. As you level up, the difficulty of some provinces scales with your XP, ensuring a continuous challenge.

However, there's a cap on this scaling mechanism. From Level 42 onwards, the recommended level for each province remains two levels below your current XP level. This design ensures that even in the late game, combat remains challenging and engaging, rewarding players who dedicate significant time to the game.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available now on PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.*
