Marvel Rivals' Character Popularity and the Nexus Mods Controversy

Official game data reveals interesting character popularity trends in Marvel Rivals. In "quick play," Jeff reigned supreme, outpacing Venom and Cloak & Dagger. However, competitive play showed different favorites. On PC, Luna Snow, Cloak & Dagger, and Mantis led the pack, while console players favored Cloak & Dagger, Penny Parker, and Mantis.

A surprising twist: Mantis, despite being the most popular competitive character (on both PC and consoles), also suffered the most defeats. She significantly outperformed Hela, Loki, and Magic in competitive matches. Interestingly, on consoles, Mantis's popularity was mirrored by fourteen other characters boasting win rates exceeding 50%.

Conversely, some characters lagged in popularity. Storm, Black Widow, and Wolverine were the least favored in "quick play," while Nemore held that unfortunate distinction in competitive modes.

The game's popularity is also overshadowed by controversy. After receiving over 500 mods in a single month, Marvel Rivals is facing backlash following Nexus Mods' removal of modifications replacing Captain America's head with images of Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

Nexus Mods owner, TheDarkOne, addressed the situation in a private Reddit discussion. He explained that both Trump and Biden-related mods were removed simultaneously to avoid accusations of political bias. The removal of the Biden mod coincided with the Trump mod's removal to maintain neutrality.

Curiously, this controversy remains largely unaddressed by YouTube gaming personalities.
