LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle Main Tower Built

By JacobJun 20,2025

For the past two years, LEGO has been working on what may be its most ambitious project yet: a minifigure-scaled replica of Hogwarts Castle, as seen in the iconic Harry Potter franchise. Still in progress, this massive build will consist of multiple standalone sets, each sold separately. The first major release was the Great Hall in Fall 2024.

The Main Tower is the second major set in this modular system and includes a series of additional buildings and classrooms available individually, such as Hogwarts Castle: Potions Class (Set #76431), Hogwarts Castle: Owlery (Set #76430), Hogwarts Castle: Flying Lessons (Set #76447), and Hogwarts Castle: Boathouse (Set #76426).

However, the Main Tower also functions perfectly as a standalone playset—especially appealing to fans of the first book and film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Like the Great Hall before it, the Main Tower opens from the back to reveal several rooms and dioramas inspired by key scenes in the movies. The lower levels are underground chambers that lead to the Sorcerer’s Stone. From left to right, these include the Devil’s Snare room, the Flying Keys room, and the grand Wizard’s Chess room.

Each room features interactive elements. The Devil’s Snare flips up or down from the ceiling using a cleverly integrated switch built into the rock structure. The Flying Keys rotate on a pedestal to simulate movement. And the oversized chess pieces are fully movable for dynamic play.

You get LEGO minifigures of Harry, Hermione, and Ron, which adds great visual appeal to the scenes. While the castle isn’t designed for open-ended play, it excels at recreating specific story moments from the books and films. Alongside the trio, you’ll find nine more characters, bringing the total to twelve: Neville Longbottom, Dean Thomas, Marcus Flint, Percy Weasley, Ernie Macmillan, Lisa Turpin, Professor Dumbledore, Professor Kettleburn, and Nearly Headless Nick.

Above the Devil’s Snare room lies Fluffy, Hagrid’s three-headed dog, resting atop a trapdoor that leads further underground. In one corner of his chamber sits a harp—used by Professor Quirrell to lull Fluffy to sleep. The harp is a standout design, made with two connected builds hinged together to form its curved shape. A side door opens into a narrow hallway that leads to an exterior balcony with a scenic outlook.

Directly above Fluffy's room is the Gryffindor common room, decorated in rich red and gold tones. It includes a small bedroom with two beds, and to the right, a living area featuring two armchairs and a fireplace. The floor is slightly sunken, giving the space a cozy, intimate feel.

Each room is built separately with its own instruction booklet, allowing for collaborative building with friends or family. After individual assembly, they can be easily stacked and connected. These connection points also allow for easy disassembly, making scene posing and separate play sessions much more manageable. Although sets of this scale usually carry an 18+ age rating, all Hogwarts Castle sets are labeled 10+, balancing display and playability.

Once the rooms are assembled, you add a roof and begin constructing the actual tower. It rises five levels high, each packed with recognizable details. The first three floors feature moving staircases inspired by Rowena Ravenclaw’s designs. Two staircases are mounted on rotating platforms, allowing them to pivot like in the movies. Portraits line the walls, adding to the magical atmosphere.

On the third floor, a gargoyle guards the hidden entrance to Professor Dumbledore’s office, located on the fourth floor. This room is filled with magical artifacts and portraits of previous headmasters. To the right of Dumbledore’s desk sits the Sword of Godric Gryffindor and the Pensieve. On the left rests the Sorting Hat, complete with a mouth near its brim. For many, this room is the highlight of the entire set—a beautifully detailed space where pivotal conversations between Harry and Dumbledore unfold.

At the very top, you build a tall spire containing the Mirror of Erised—the final room in the tower. The mirror sits on a rotating platform, switching between two images: one showing Harry with his parents, and the other depicting him holding the Sorcerer’s Stone.

The Main Tower is impressively large, standing over two feet tall from base to tip. When combined with the Great Hall, the full facade becomes even more breathtaking. Together, the interiors create a visually rich experience, packing so many memorable Hogwarts moments into a compact display.

In short, this new LEGO Hogwarts Castle feels like the result of a carefully planned vision. Unlike the earlier version, which felt pieced together after the fact, this one gives the impression of being built toward a unified whole—an idea likely already realized in prototype or digital format at LEGO headquarters.

It may take years to complete, but if the current level of craftsmanship continues, the final product could be LEGO’s greatest achievement yet.

LEGO Hogwarts Castle: The Main Tower, Set #76454, retails for $259.99 and contains 2,135 pieces. It is available now.
