Krafton Considers Renaming Dark & Darker Mobile

By AaliyahApr 03,2025

It appears that Dark and Darker Mobile, the eagerly awaited smartphone version of the hack 'n slash extraction dungeon crawler, is poised for a significant transformation. Recent reports suggest that Krafton is not only reconsidering the game's name but also ending its partnership with Ironmace Studio.

This development couldn't come at a worse time for Ironmace, who were recently mandated to pay $6 million in damages to Nexon due to an ongoing legal battle. The lawsuit centers around Nexon's claim that Ironmace, founded by former Nexon employees, utilized trade secrets from a project known as P3 to develop Dark and Darker.

Despite Krafton's assertion that the name change is unrelated to the lawsuit, they've also announced the termination of their global licensing agreement with Ironmace. This means that Dark and Darker Mobile—or whatever it will be renamed—will proceed as a standalone release.

ytDarkest of dungeonsThe ethical implications of this lawsuit are complex, especially since Ironmace initially sued Nexon for copyright infringement. It's somewhat ironic that even after dissolving their partnership, Krafton seems ready to move forward with the project, essentially rebranding it. This move suggests that the genre's floodgates are now open, regardless of Nexon's actions against Ironmace.

For fans eagerly awaiting Dark and Darker Mobile, this isn't necessarily negative news. Krafton has indicated that they will adhere to the previously announced global release schedule. However, should there be any changes or further developments, we will keep you updated.

We hope that Dark and Darker Mobile's full launch will uphold the high standards we commended in our review.
