Killer Instinct Gold has been freshly added to the Nintendo Switch Online library, bringing another exciting Nintendo 64 title to subscribers of the Online Expansion Pack. This game is a port of the arcade classic Killer Instinct 2, joining its predecessor, Killer Instinct, in the ever-growing collection of retro games.
Originally released in 1996, Killer Instinct Gold was crafted by the renowned British studio Rare, known for their work as a second-party developer for Nintendo. Rare's portfolio during that era included gems like Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye 007, and Perfect Dark. Players can dive into the action with a choice of 10 fierce fighters and explore various game modes, boasting "hundreds of thousands of moves and killer Combos at your fingertips."
Interestingly, Rare, and consequently the Killer Instinct franchise, are now under Microsoft's umbrella, making Killer Instinct Gold an Xbox Game Studios title available on the Switch. Since the launch of the Xbox One title, Killer Instinct, in 2013, Microsoft has yet to announce plans for a new sequel.

Preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 opened at the end of April, maintaining a price point of $449.99. The response was overwhelming, as expected. Despite Nintendo issuing a warning to U.S. customers who pre-ordered via the My Nintendo Store about potential delays due to high demand, Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, expressed confidence to IGN that the company will have sufficient units available "through the holidays."
