Jason Momoa Hints at Lobo's Appearance in 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow'

By AvaApr 02,2025

Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to bring the iconic character Lobo to life in the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, slated for release in June 2026. Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, boasts superhuman strength and immortality. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983 and is the last survivor of his now-dead world, much like Superman.

Momoa, who has expressed that Lobo is his favorite comic book character, shared his excitement and nervousness about taking on the role in an interview with ScreenRant. He hinted at a faithful adaptation of the character's look and demeanor, describing Lobo as "rough and gruff" and teasing the inclusion of a cool bike. However, Momoa also noted that his screen time as Lobo would be limited, emphasizing that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is primarily Supergirl's story.

From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.

The film, directed by James Gunn, will also star Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. Gunn shared the first photo of Alcock in the role on Bluesky, marking the start of production. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow draws heavily from the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira, which follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll seeking revenge for her father's murder with Supergirl's help.

Joining Alcock and Momoa in the cast are Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is the second film in the new DCU, following Gunn's Superman set to premiere this summer, with the DCU's Clayface movie scheduled for September 2026.
