Jacksepticeye's Secret Soma Animated Show Collapses Unexpectedly

By PatrickApr 05,2025

YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, recently shared in his video titled 'A Bad Month' that he had been working on an animated show based on the survival horror game Soma, only for the project to fall apart unexpectedly. This revelation has left him "quite upset."

Soma, developed by Frictional Games, the creators of the Amnesia series, was released in 2015 to critical acclaim. Jacksepticeye, a fan of the game, streamed it extensively and considers it one of his top video games. He had been in discussions with the developers for a year about turning Soma into an animated series, and they were on the verge of entering full production.

However, the project abruptly collapsed when an unnamed party decided to take the project "in a different direction." Jacksepticeye chose not to delve into specifics due to his emotional response to the situation, but he expressed his deep disappointment.

The cancellation of the Soma animated show significantly disrupted Jacksepticeye's plans for 2025. He had intended to focus his efforts on the project, which led to a reduction in his content creation. The sudden halt left him questioning his priorities and what to do next, describing the period as a "tough month" filled with numerous calls and frustration over having nothing to show for his efforts.

Frictional Games, after releasing Soma, went on to develop two more Amnesia titles: Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In July 2023, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip mentioned the company's intention to shift focus from horror to explore other emotional themes in their games, aiming to provide players with immersive experiences beyond just horror elements.
