By NoraMay 13,2025

The buzz around Hollow Knight: Silksong has reached a fever pitch following Microsoft's recent mention of the game in an official Xbox post. Adding fuel to the fire, recent backend changes to the game's Steam listing have sparked widespread speculation that a re-reveal and potential release could be imminent.

On March 24, eagle-eyed fans across social media platforms, Reddit, and Discord noticed updates to Hollow Knight: Silksong's Steam metadata. These updates, meticulously documented on SteamDB, include an opt-in for the game on GeForce Now, Nvidia's video game streaming service, alongside changes to assets and the legal lines on the Steam store page. Notably, the copyright on the page now reads Team Cherry 2025, shifting from the previous 2019, hinting at a possible release year.

All signs point to something big happening soon for Hollow Knight: Silksong, perhaps even a 2025 launch. With Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2, fans might not have to wait long for official news.

It's been six years since Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced, and in that time, there have been intermittent updates but also long stretches of silence from Team Cherry. January saw a flurry of activity from one developer on X/Twitter, igniting speculation of a re-reveal during the Switch 2 Direct and a possible timed exclusive release on Nintendo's next-generation console.

It's crucial to recall that when Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced, Team Cherry confirmed its launch on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. The game also ranks high on the list of most-wanted titles for Microsoft's Game Pass, following a deal to bring Silksong to the service on launch day.

In June 2022, Microsoft showcased Hollow Knight: Silksong at its Xbox-Bethesda Showcase, promising that all games featured would be playable within the next 12 months. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay past the first half of 2023, with more details to follow as the release date approached. At the time, Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry's marketing and publishing lead, stated, “We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can.”

As the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 game Hollow Knight, Silksong carries immense anticipation and remains one of the most wishlisted games on Steam. In IGN's review of Hollow Knight, we praised the game, saying, "The world of Hallownest is compelling and rich, full of story that’s left for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an absurd amount of choice in how you go about discovering it. With such a high density of secrets to find and fun, challenging enemies to face, it’s worth spending every moment you can in Hollow Knight.”
