While some communities, like the Tomodachi Life fans, are reveling in the excitement following today's Nintendo Direct, others are feeling the sting of disappointment. Specifically, the Hollow Knight: Silksong community is once again donning their clown makeup, as no new trailer for the much-anticipated sequel appeared at the showcase.
Fortunately, another opportunity awaits next week.
Of course, now we wait for April 2nd

The Silksong community has been a rollercoaster of anticipation and letdowns for quite some time. A quick visit to their subreddit or Discord will reveal a flood of memes and "silkposts" filled with fantasies, predictions, and humor about a game that seems perpetually on the horizon. We've covered their ups and downs before, from the back-to-back Directs last year that left them reeling, to the January frenzy over a chocolate cake photo that sparked a wild search for an ARG that never materialized. From an outsider's perspective, it's challenging to discern whether the community's reactions are rooted in genuine disappointment or if it's just a close-knit group of fans enjoying the ride with each new showcase announcement.
Nintendo Direct? That’s not until April 2nd

However, there's a heightened sense of urgency surrounding the upcoming showcase. Hollow Knight initially gained fame on PC, but its popularity soared with its Nintendo Switch release the following year, firmly associating it with Nintendo's platform. The next showcase is particularly significant as it's a Nintendo Direct dedicated to unveiling the Nintendo Switch 2, including its hardware and potential launch titles. This grand stage could be the perfect setting for Silksong to make a triumphant reappearance. While first-party games will undoubtedly feature prominently, Hollow Knight fans are clinging to the hope that Silksong's widespread anticipation and popularity will earn it a spot at this major event—and that it's finally ready to shine.

Are Silksong fans poised for yet another disappointment, perhaps the 50th since the game was first announced? It's likely, but there are hints that a release date announcement might be imminent. A recent Xbox Wire post on indies made a passing mention of Silksong, though it could have been a playful tease. More intriguingly, recent backend changes to the game's Steam listing, including an updated copyright year, suggest progress. Yet, the community has endured countless cycles of hype over Silksong's listings and delistings on various console storefronts, so it's hard to be certain.

The only thing we know for sure is what Team Cherry's marketing and publishing chief, Matthew 'Leth' Griffin, stated in January after the cake incident: "Yes, the game is real, progressing, and will release." All we can do now is wait and dream of what life will be like in a post-Silksong world.
So, get your clown makeup ready for next week, folks!
