First Harry Potter Set Photos Feature Series' Young Star and the Dursleys, as HBO TV Series Films at London Zoo

The initial set photos from the production of HBO's Harry Potter TV series have surfaced online, offering fans a glimpse of the young lead actor alongside his Muggle relatives, the Dursleys.

Shooting recently took place at London Zoo, the location for a pivotal moment in the first novel where Harry—now portrayed by Dominic McLaughlin—casts a spell to free a snake and directs it toward his pampered cousin, Dudley.

The images provide our first view of Dudley (Amos Kitson), Aunt Petunia (Bel Powley), and Uncle Vernon (Daniel Rigby) in costume, sporting notably vintage attire. Dudley is seen in a tracksuit shell suit, while Vernon wears a patterned shirt, thick-rimmed glasses, and a prominent moustache.

The characters' styling aligns with the original timeline of the books, as Dudley's 11th birthday falls in June 1991, just months before Harry departs for Hogwarts.

Although the Harry Potter novels were published starting in 1997, the narrative is set a few years earlier. The final book concludes in 1998, followed by an epilogue flashforward showing the main characters as adults with their own children in 2017.

Zoo visitors got an up-close look at the cast while they filmed among various exhibits. This location is expected to be one of the few scenes from the first book and season shot publicly, with most filming taking place on the extensive grounds of Warner Bros. Leavesden Studios.

Production activity is intensifying, including the construction of a real-life school facility capable of accommodating up to 600 young cast members at the studio base.

Warner Bros. and HBO plan to adapt each Harry Potter novel into a separate TV season, filming the series over an eight-to-ten-year span. The first season is scheduled for release in 2027.

HBO celebrated the start of production this week by releasing a photo of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter in his Hogwarts robes, followed shortly by images of Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) costumed as Hagrid.

We have yet to see veteran actor John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, or Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley in their respective costumes.
