GTA 6 Trailer 2: PS5, Xbox Release Confirmed, PC Absent

With the unveiling of the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI and a significant update to its official website, fans eagerly anticipated details on the launch platforms and the newly announced release date of May 26, 2026. The trailer's conclusion showcased the release date alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S logos, confirming that these consoles will be part of GTA 6's initial launch. Notably, Trailer 2 was captured on a PS5, specifically mentioned as such, rather than the PS5 Pro.

This raises questions about the potential PC launch and the possibility of a release on the Nintendo Switch 2. Some fans hoped that the delay to May 2026 might prompt Rockstar and its parent company, Take-Two, to consider a simultaneous PC release. However, the absence of any mention of a PC version in the trailer suggests that this might not be the case.

This omission aligns with Rockstar's historical approach to game releases, yet it feels increasingly outdated in 2025 and 2026. Given the growing significance of the PC market for multiplatform games, the exclusion of a PC launch for GTA 6 could be seen as a missed opportunity or even a strategic error.

In an interview with IGN in February, Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, hinted at GTA 6's eventual release on PC. He referenced the simultaneous launch of Civilization 7 across multiple platforms, including PC, but noted that Rockstar typically adopts a staggered release strategy. "So with Civ 7 it's available on console and PC and Switch right away," Zelnick explained. "With regard to others in our lineup, we don't always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms."

Rockstar's fans are well aware of the studio's past reluctance to launch games on PC simultaneously with consoles, as well as its complex relationship with the modding community. Despite this, many hoped that GTA 6, given its monumental scale, might mark a shift in Rockstar's approach to PC gaming.

While major Rockstar titles do eventually make their way to PC, the timeline for GTA 6 remains uncertain. Will PC gamers have to wait until Fall 2027, early 2027, or perhaps even a year later in May 2027?

In December 2023, a former Rockstar developer attempted to shed light on why GTA 6 would first launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S before coming to PC. They urged PC gamers to give the studio the "benefit of the doubt" regarding its launch strategy.

The potential missed opportunity of not launching GTA 6 on PC simultaneously with consoles is significant. Zelnick told IGN that the PC version of a multiplatform game can account for 40% of total sales, or even more in some cases. "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue," he said. "Of course, there will be a new console generation."

Meanwhile, the absence of a Nintendo Switch 2 logo in GTA 6 Trailer 2 was not unexpected. Although the capabilities of the Switch 2 remain undisclosed, it is set to receive CD Projekt's Cyberpunk 2077. This led to some speculation that GTA 6, which is slated for the less powerful Xbox Series S, might also find its way to Nintendo's next-generation console.
