Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy to Launch on Nintendo Switch 2, Square Enix Confirms

In a recent installment of Nintendo's Creator's Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, shared exciting news about the future of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. This enhanced version of the 2020 PS4 release, Final Fantasy VII Remake, which kicked off the trilogy, is set to make its way to the upcoming Switch 2.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, which is currently available on PS5 and PC, boasts upgraded graphics and lighting compared to its PS4 counterpart. It also includes the Intermission DLC, featuring the adventures of the spirited ninja Yuffie in Midgar. Thanks to the enhanced capabilities of the Switch 2, Hamaguchi confidently stated, "With the power of the Switch 2, we can now recreate Midgar with full specs." This means that fans can look forward to experiencing the detailed world of Midgar on Nintendo's new handheld platform.

Hamaguchi highlighted the benefits of portability, noting, "Being able to play this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play it on the train while commuting to work." This feature will not only make the game more accessible but also facilitate sharing and discussing gameplay experiences with others.

The Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will also introduce GameChat, allowing players to communicate with friends and share their screens in real-time. Hamaguchi expressed his enthusiasm for this addition, saying, "I’m very excited to see this game playable on a portable system," and he looks forward to fostering a strong partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand.

While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been confirmed for the Switch 2 so far, Hamaguchi hinted at potential future releases, stating, "I hope players are looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2." This suggests that fans might also see Rebirth and the concluding chapter of the trilogy on the Switch 2.

This move marks a significant return for the Final Fantasy series to Nintendo consoles, reminiscent of its origins before the transition to the PlayStation 1 for Final Fantasy VII in 1997. With the remake, the iconic game will finally be playable on Nintendo hardware, bridging the gap between past and present gaming experiences.
