Final Fantasy XIV Halts Housing Demolitions Due to California Wildfires
Square Enix has temporarily suspended automatic housing demolition timers in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers. This action, affecting players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers, comes in response to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. The company announced the pause just one day after restarting the demolition timers.
The automatic demolition system, designed to free up housing plots after 45 days of inactivity, is routinely paused during significant real-world events to prevent players from losing their homes due to circumstances beyond their control. Previous pauses have been implemented in response to events such as Hurricane Helene. This latest suspension ensures that players potentially impacted by the wildfires will not lose their in-game properties. Homeowners can still reset their timers by logging into their estates.
While a restart date for the demolition timers has not yet been announced, Square Enix assures players they will provide an update once the situation is assessed. The company expressed sympathy for those affected by the wildfires, highlighting the broader impact of the disaster. The suspension follows a three-month moratorium that concluded on January 8th.
This unexpected pause adds to a busy start to 2025 for Final Fantasy XIV players, who also recently benefited from a free login campaign. The duration of the current housing demolition freeze remains uncertain.
