The launch of FF9’s 25th anniversary website earlier this year already set the stage for speculation. The excitement was amplified when Square Enix shared a quote from Vivi on Twitter, the game's iconic black mage.

The latest update features small icons of four of the eight main characters. Clicking these icons reveals detailed descriptions and fresh artwork by FF9’s character designer, Toshiyuki Itahana, known for his work on the Crystal Chronicles and Chocobo series. These profiles delve into each character's role and aspirations within the story.

While no official confirmation of a remake has been made, the meticulous attention to detail in these updates has fans eagerly anticipating a major announcement soon. For now, FF9 enthusiasts are keeping a close watch for any further developments.

Square Enix has also expanded its 25th anniversary merchandise lineup for FF9. New items include a replica of Garnet’s necklace, Vivi’s hat, and an FF9 Acrylic Stand Collection.

Garnet’s Silver Necklace is now up for reservation, with a release date set for November 15. Priced at around 38,500 yen (approximately $260), it's a must-have for collectors. Vivi’s wearable hat is also available for reservation, expected to ship on September 6 at a cost of about 17,600 yen ($120).

The FF9 Acrylic Stand Collection features eight unique designs, sold in blind boxes, adding an element of surprise for fans.
