Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3: PS5 Launch Confirmed, Multi-Platform Release Planned
The highly anticipated final installment of the FF7 Remake trilogy will debut on the PlayStation 5, according to producers Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi. This confirmation, shared during a 4Gamer interview on January 23, 2025, alleviates concerns among PlayStation fans following the staggered releases of previous installments.
PS5 Launch and Beyond
Kitase directly addressed concerns regarding the release patterns of FF7 Remake and FF7 Rebirth, stating definitively that Part 3 will launch on PS5. While the PS5 is nearing the midpoint of its lifecycle, the potential impact of a future PS6 console on the release timeline remains unclear.
Release Date Still Under Wraps
Square Enix remains tight-lipped about the official release date. However, Hamaguchi offered a positive development update during a Famitsu interview on the same day, stating that progress is on track and a key milestone was reached by the end of 2024. Kitase also expressed his satisfaction with the completed storyline, suggesting a confident outlook for the game's completion.
Timed Exclusivity Expected
A March 6, 2024 Washington Post report indicated a timed exclusivity agreement between PlayStation and Square Enix for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy. Given the release patterns of previous games (one-year exclusivity for FF7 Remake, six-month exclusivity for FF7 Remake Intergrade on PS5, and a similar timeframe for FF7 Rebirth), a similar timed exclusive period for PS5 is highly probable before a multi-platform launch.
Square Enix's Multi-Platform Shift
Despite the success of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix's financial report (March 31, 2024) revealed declining sales in its HD title portfolio. In response, the company announced a strategic shift towards a multi-platform approach, encompassing Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. This suggests that while Part 3 will initially launch on PS5, other platforms are likely to receive the game eventually.
