Escape Academy, a highly-rated escape-room style puzzle game, is the Epic Games Store's free game offering from January 16th to 23rd, 2025. This marks the fourth free game offered by the EGS in 2025 and, based on its OpenCritic score of 80 (88% recommendation), is currently the highest-rated free game offered so far this year.
Developed by Coin Crew Games and initially released in July 2022, Escape Academy challenges players to hone their escape room skills as students at the titular academy. While previously offered as a free game on the EGS (January 1st, 2024), this giveaway provides a full week of access. The timing is particularly beneficial for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, as the game is leaving the service on January 15th.
This free offering follows the EGS's January 2025 lineup: Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Hell Let Loose, and Turmoil. The next free game will be announced on January 16th. Escape Academy boasts positive player reviews across various platforms (Steam, PlayStation Store, Xbox Store) and offers both solo and engaging online/split-screen co-op gameplay, praised as one of the best co-op puzzle games recently.
Two DLC packs, Escape From Anti-Escape Island and Escape From the Past, are available for purchase separately ($9.99 each) or as a Season Pass ($14.99).
