The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake Will Reportedly Be Revealed Soon, and Released Not Long After That

By CarterApr 28,2025

Exciting news awaits fans of The Elder Scrolls series as Bethesda is reportedly on the brink of announcing a remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. According to the reliable source NatetheHate, who previously nailed the announcement date for the Nintendo Switch 2, the reveal is expected either this month or next month. This information has been corroborated by VGC, adding further credibility to the buzz.

While the announcement seems imminent, the release window remains a bit hazy. NatetheHate suggests a launch before June, whereas VGC hints at a potential release as early as April. This eagerly anticipated remake promises to breathe new life into the beloved classic, making it a must-watch for gamers everywhere.

In January, Mp1st shed light on what appears to be an accidental leak by a former Virtuos employee, revealing details about the Oblivion remake. Microsoft, when approached by IGN for comment, remained tight-lipped. According to Mp1st, Virtuos has leveraged Unreal Engine 5 to completely rework the game, hinting at a comprehensive overhaul rather than a simple remaster. The report also touched on various gameplay enhancements, including modifications to Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reaction, and the user interface (HUD).

Specifically, the changes to Blocking were inspired by action games and Soulslikes, aiming to address the original's "boring" and "frustrating" mechanics. Sneak icons have been made more visible, with damage calculations revamped. The difficulty of triggering a knockdown from depleted Stamina has been increased, and the HUD has been redesigned for clarity. Additionally, new hit reactions have been introduced to enhance the combat feel, and Archery has been updated for both first and third-person perspectives.

Rumors of an Oblivion remaster first surfaced in 2023 during the Federal Trade Commission versus Microsoft trial concerning the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. A document from July 2020, ahead of Microsoft’s 2021 purchase of ZeniMax Media, listed several unannounced Bethesda projects, including an "Oblivion Remaster" slated for the 2022 financial year. However, it's possible that the project evolved from a remaster to a full-fledged remake, which we might soon confirm upon Bethesda's official reveal.

With Microsoft now embracing multiplatform releases and the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, the Oblivion remake could potentially launch across a broader range of platforms than ever before, including PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and perhaps even the Switch 2. If the Switch 2 hits the market around June, Oblivion might just grace its launch window, bringing the iconic game to a whole new audience.
