Criticisms extend beyond monetization practices to encompass technical issues and gameplay mechanics. The update addresses over 50 areas, including substantial revisions to assists, shooting, goalkeeping, and defensive AI. Specific improvements target common frustrations such as defenders consistently catching up to ball carriers, smoother attacking transitions, reduced AI interceptions and reverse tackles, and a decrease in the effectiveness of crossing passes. Player support in familiar roles has also been enhanced, along with offside detection accuracy during AI offensive runs. Minor improvements have been made to the accuracy of long-range shots.
Initial player reception was overwhelmingly negative, with only 36% of 474 reviews positive upon release. This negative sentiment stems from perceived corporate greed, numerous bugs and crashes, and controller recognition problems, particularly with PlayStation controllers. Furthermore, the game's anti-cheat measures render it incompatible with the Steam Deck.
