Dune: Awakening recently concluded its open beta weekend, and during this period, fans unearthed a significant exploit that could keep enemies stunned indefinitely. This article delves into the details of this game-altering bug in PvP and outlines Funcom's strategy to address it before the game's official launch.
Players Discover Game-Breaking Stunlock Exploit
The open beta weekend for Dune: Awakening allowed players to experience the first 20-25 hours of gameplay, along with other features. A major discovery was made during Funcom's Global LAN Party livestream on May 10, where players found a way to exploit the game mechanics, leading to a "stunlock exploit" in PvP.
This exploit involves a player using quick knife attacks on an opponent who has depleted their stamina. As a result, the targeted player becomes trapped in a continuous stagger state, unable to defend themselves, use abilities, or escape. The issue gained widespread attention when it was demonstrated on popular streamers Tyler1 and Shroud's livestreams.
Funcom Promises Fix Before Launch
During the same Global LAN Party livestream, Funcom developers, including Dune: Awakening World Director Jeff Gagné and Lead Producer Ole Andreas Haley, acknowledged the stunlock exploit and committed to resolving it before the game's full release.
Gagné reassured players, stating, "We got this covered. It's not like 'Oh my god, we haven't thought about it.' It's already going away." With the beta weekend now behind them, the developers have gathered valuable feedback and praise, which they will use to optimize the game for its upcoming launch.
Dune: Awakening is scheduled to launch on June 10, 2025, for PC, with releases for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S to follow at a later, unspecified date. Stay tuned for more updates by checking out our latest articles on the game!
