RuneScape: Dragonwilds has surprised fans with a sudden announcement of its early access release. During a livestream on April 16, Jagex, the developers behind Dragonwilds, revealed that the game is now accessible for early access on Steam. This announcement came just a few weeks after the initial trailer was released, astonishing fans who had only recently been able to wishlist the game on Steam starting April 1, and saw its first gameplay teaser on April 2. Although the game was first hinted at in 2022, it was not until late 2024 that alpha testing signups were opened for a "new survival game set in the RuneScape universe." The official reveal as RuneScape: Dragonwilds happened on March 31, 2025.
Estimated Official Release Date in Early 2026
Jagex estimates that Dragonwilds will see its full release in early 2026. The development team is committed to taking the necessary time to perfect the game, ensuring a comprehensive and engaging experience that players will want to return to time and again. Jesse America, Jagex's Executive Producer, emphasized that Dragonwilds represents a fresh take on the RuneScape universe, designed to captivate both long-time fans and newcomers. He stated, "Throughout Early Access, we’ll be updating the game regularly with new content and features, while listening closely to the community to deliver an iconic open world survival crafting game that is loved equally by our biggest RuneScape fans and new players alike."
Early Access Roadmap Revealed
Jagex has also shared an exciting early access roadmap, giving players a glimpse into the future updates planned for Dragonwilds. A highlight of these updates is the introduction of Fellhollow, a unique region caught between life and death. Governed by the soul-eater dragon Imaru, this area is influenced by the wild anima of Ashenfall and the cursed energy of the Underworld. Players will explore this region with the iconic RuneScape character Death, encountering new quests, lore, gear, and music, along with new skills in magic, ranged, and farming. Additional content includes new enemy types like Lesser Dragons, dragon slayer gear, a hardcore mode, creative mode, and more. While specific dates for these updates haven't been disclosed, Jagex promises continuous enhancements throughout the early access phase.

Players who jump into Dragonwilds during its early access period will be rewarded with exclusive in-game items. According to the game's Steam page, "Early Adopters" will receive the following:
