Will it be challenging to secure a Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. at its launch and throughout 2025? Doug Bowser, president of Nintendo of America, assures that the company is prepared to meet consumer demand with sufficient stock through the holiday season.
In an interview with IGN discussing the new Nintendo San Francisco store, Bowser noted a robust positive response to the Switch 2 but emphasized a strategy for a steady product supply in 2025. The Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5.
“Nintendo President Mr. Shuntaro Furukawa recently shared that we project 15 million units for the Nintendo Switch 2 and 4.5 million for the original Switch this fiscal year,” Bowser stated.
“This forecast aims to replicate the success of the original Nintendo Switch in its first 10 months. In the U.S., we are confident our production and supply chain will satisfy consumer demand. The strong early response to the Switch 2, evident through preorders, has informed our plan to ensure a consistent product flow through the holidays.”
This is encouraging for those aiming to purchase a Switch 2 in the U.S. this year. Preorders for the console, priced at $449.99, began on April 24 after a tariff-related delay, and demand has been intense. Nintendo has cautioned U.S. customers who preordered through the My Nintendo Store that delivery by the release date is not guaranteed due to high demand.
Bowser’s recent statements suggest that those who have preordered a Switch 2 should receive their units. For more details, see IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
Concerns have also arisen about tariffs potentially increasing the Switch 2’s price or its games. When asked about maintaining the $450 price point at launch and beyond, Bowser remained noncommittal but indicated a commitment to the announced pricing.

Bowser responded cautiously, noting that Nintendo had “set expectations” by pricing the Switch 2 at $450 and the Switch 2 with Mario Kart World bundle at $500.
“We established those price points for the single unit at $449 and the Mario Kart World bundle at $499,” Bowser said.
“It was critical to set those prices, even with new tariffs announced, to reassure consumers they can buy at those levels. The situation remains fluid, and it’s hard to predict changes in the coming weeks or months. Still, we are dedicated to making our products, including the Nintendo Switch 2, as accessible as possible within current or evolving market conditions.”
