DOOM Revitalized: Classic Titles Receive Update

While eagerly awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, fans are revisiting the classic DOOM games, thanks to a recent update. This update significantly enhances the technical aspects of DOOM and DOOM 2, going beyond mere bug fixes.

A key addition is multiplayer mod support, compatible with mods built using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative gameplay now allows players to share item pickups, and a spectator mode has been implemented for players awaiting revival. Network code optimization further improves the multiplayer experience. The mod loader's capacity has also been boosted, handling subscriptions exceeding 100 mods.

Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a core focus. The game will offer unprecedented customization options, surpassing previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton highlights the commitment to accessibility, allowing players to adjust various gameplay elements.

Players can fine-tune enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, and even broader aspects like game tempo, demon aggression, and parry timing. Stratton also confirmed that prior DOOM experience isn't required to understand the narratives of DOOM: The Dark Ages and its connection to DOOM: Eternal.
