It's been quite a while since we last discussed the exciting news that Don't Starve Together would be coming to Netflix Games, announced back in June 2024. We've got a mix of good and not-so-good updates to share. The disappointing news is that Don't Starve Together will no longer be available on Netflix. However, the silver lining is that the game is still making its way to mobile platforms.
Playdigious, in collaboration with Klei Entertainment, continues to work on bringing the eerie, Tim Burton-esque world of Don't Starve to your mobile devices. In this beloved survival series, you find yourself stranded on an island teeming with hostile creatures. As you take on the role of various quirky characters, your primary goals are to gather resources, survive, and, most crucially, don't starve.
Originally planned for an exclusive release on Netflix Games, Don't Starve Together will now be launched globally on both iOS and Android platforms via the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store. Although a specific release date has yet to be announced, both Klei Entertainment and Playdigious have assured fans that an update on the launch is forthcoming.
No Netflix for you It appears that the exclusivity agreement with Netflix for Don't Starve Together has fallen through. While it's reassuring to know the game will still reach a global audience on mobile, it raises questions about Netflix Games' ongoing commitment to indie titles. Don't Starve is a well-established and iconic survival indie game, and if it can lose its spot, what does that mean for other indie developers?
This situation is particularly disappointing because Netflix's indie game offerings have been one of its standout features.
