Disney Lorcana's Ninth Set: Fabled Releases September 2025, Featuring Goofy Movie and Iconic, Epic Cards

By DanielJul 01,2025

Disney Lorcana has taken a major step forward, revealing an exciting roadmap for the future of the trading card game. Among the highlights is the announcement of Fabled, the ninth set, scheduled to launch on September 5, 2025, bringing with it the debut of the first-ever Iconic and Epic cards, as well as characters from A Goofy Movie.

In addition to details about Fabled, new information was shared about the upcoming eighth set—Reign of Jafar, set to arrive on June 6 following its pre-release on May 30. A brand-new Collection Starter Set was also unveiled, along with updates regarding the Disney Lorcana World Championship. And yes—Darkwing Duck made a long-awaited appearance in the conversation.

There’s a lot to unpack, so let’s dive into the latest developments shaping the world of Disney Lorcana.

Fabled: New Rarities, Rotating Formats, and Iconic Additions

While we’re still waiting for full details on Fabled, the early reveals have already built anticipation for both the pre-release on August 29 and the full release on September 5.

One of the most significant additions in Fabled is the inclusion of characters from A Goofy Movie. While specific character cards haven’t been revealed yet, fans are eagerly speculating which iconic moments and personalities will make the cut.

More importantly, Fabled introduces two groundbreaking rarities: Iconic Cards and Epic Cards.

  • Iconic Cards will be the rarest type in the game, with only two appearing per set. Mickey and Minnie will headline this category, featured together on a beautifully illustrated carousel-themed card.
  • Epic Cards, while more accessible than Iconic or Enchanted, will still offer striking artwork and foil treatments. These cards aim to provide more opportunities for players to collect standout pieces like the new Elsa (Snow Queen).

Another major shift introduced with Fabled is the start of card rotation in competitive play. The top-tier format, known as Core Constructed, will no longer allow cards from the first four sets.

However, older cards won't disappear entirely. A new format called Infinity Constructed will keep them viable, and select reprints—including fan favorites such as Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard)—will be included in Fabled, ensuring broader access and continued playability.

Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger, explained:

“To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards encourages new strategies and fresh deck designs. But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to many fans’ deck-building strategies—and not everyone got the cards they wanted the first year—we’re reprinting some cards from those first sets in Fabled. Including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!”

Jump Into Lorcana With the New Collection Starter Set

For newcomers or collectors looking to expand their collection, the newly announced Collection Starter Set offers an ideal entry point. It includes:

  • Four Fabled booster packs
  • A Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) "Glimmer Foil" Promo Card
  • A card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor)
  • A collector's guide

This set is perfect for players who want to experience the latest content while building a solid foundation in the game.

Reign of Jafar: Aladdin, Bambi, and a Co-Op Adventure

The eighth set, Reign of Jafar, arrives in pre-release on May 30 and wide release on June 6. This expansion continues the ongoing narrative featuring one of Disney’s most iconic villains.

According to official lore:

“Jafar now possesses the Hexwell Crown and, with it, he has corrupted Archazia’s Island to his wicked will. Traps and illusions abound in Reign of Jafar, and glimmers like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber will need to band together to steal back the crown and defeat the evil vizier.”

Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist

A highlight of Reign of Jafar is the introduction of Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist, a new co-op experience-in-a-box designed for four players. Participants team up to face off against Jafar and his minions in an immersive adventure.

Key cards expected in this set include:

  • Bambi (Prince of the Forest)
  • Flower (Shy Skunk)
  • Thumper (Young Bunny)
  • Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana)
  • Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug)
  • Aladdin (Vigilant Guard)

Looking Ahead: Whispers in the Well and Darkwing Duck

Beyond Fabled, the next set in line is Whispers in the Well, slated for a Q4 2025 release. Although few details were shared, concept art teased the inclusion of Mickey, Ariel, and possibly characters from Disney Gargoyles. Additionally, a new type of Glimmer is on the horizon.

Further down the timeline, Darkwing Duck was officially confirmed to enter the Lorcana universe in 2026, much to the delight of longtime fans.

Disney Lorcana World Championship

The competitive scene is heating up as the Disney Lorcana World Championship approaches. Taking place on June 28–29 at Walt Disney World, this prestigious event will crown the very first annual Disney Lorcana TCG World Champion.

Fans unable to attend can follow the action live on Twitch.TV/DisneyLorcana, where a talented cast of commentators—including Rebekah (RebekahQuests), Baker (LorcanaVillain), Liam (The Illumiteers), Brandon (Bsquared24), and JD (JDZ Quest)—will bring the matches to life.

Additionally, a special non-foil promo card titled “A Whole New World” will be available during the event, with more distribution details to come.

Stay tuned for further updates as Disney Lorcana continues to evolve and expand. Whether you're a seasoned collector or just starting your journey, the future looks bright—and full of magical surprises.
