The Witcher 4 Beta Test Invite Scam
CD Projekt Red Issues Warning
The developers of The Witcher 4, CD Projekt Red, have issued a crucial warning to the gaming community regarding a rampant beta test invite scam. On April 16, CD Projekt Red took to The Witcher's official Twitter (X) account to address the issue. They stated that they've been made aware of fraudulent invitations to a supposed beta test for The Witcher 4 circulating online, which are entirely deceptive.
In their post, CD Projekt Red emphasized their efforts to combat this scam, stating, "We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. That said, if you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, we kindly ask you to report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using." They reassured fans that any legitimate future beta tests would be announced first on The Witcher's official social media channels and websites.
First Revealed in December 2024
The Witcher 4 made its grand debut at the Game Awards in December 2024, captivating audiences with a thrilling trailer that introduced Ciri as the game's new protagonist. This shift from the iconic Geralt, who led the previous three games, sparked significant discussion within the community.
Following the announcement, VGC had the opportunity to interview The Witcher 4 Narrative Director, Phillipp Weber, about the fan reactions to Ciri's new role. Weber expressed empathy for the fans' attachment to Geralt, noting his own fondness for the character. He assured, however, that the team is committed to proving that Ciri's journey will be just as compelling and worthwhile. "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago," Weber explained.
The Witcher 4 Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, also weighed in, expressing gratitude towards fans who have supported the decision to feature Ciri as the lead. "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released," Mitręga stated, highlighting the team's confidence in the upcoming title.
CD Projekt Red has promised that The Witcher 4 will be the most ambitious installment in the series, introducing new regions and monsters. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though a specific release date has yet to be announced.
